Charcoal Grills

Easy Cooking on a Charcoal Grill

When I was a kid my parents would look forward to the fresh fish we caught but not me and my sisters. All we wanted were hot dogs that tasted like the best food ever when cooked on a charcoal grill. Nothing gives you that grilled flavor like a charcoal grill. Now that I am older I love the fresh fish also but when I am grilling I still want a good old fashioned hot dog.

Starting a charcoal grill is a bit of an art. For basic cooking like burgers and steaks you only requires one layer of charcoal. If you are cooking a chicken or a roast you will need two layers. If the weather is windy or cold you need a bit more to get the amount of heat needed to cook. You want to stack the charcoal in a cone like shape. Pour lighter fluid ( if needed) mostly in the center of the cone and lightly around the edges. There is many types of charcoal sold that is already equipped with lighter fluid to save you the time and trouble. You want to let the fluid settle in for about 30 seconds. Using a long match for safety, light the bottom of the cone on 2 sides at least. Allow the coal to burn until the coals are white. Using Coleman roadtrip grill accessories the coals out. You can cook directly on the grill or use a pan. If you want those terrific grill marks, cook directly on the grill.

There are charcoal grills on the market that allow you to skip some of the above steps. They offer a gas assist start button. You just put in the charcoal, hit the button, wait for heat up and grill. Make sure you use your grill away from any possible fire hazard like trees and brush. Inspect your Coleman roadtrip grill before lighting. Check for any cracks or holes in the grill pan. Always start with a clean grill to reduce flare ups. A charcoal grill takes at least 30 minutes to heat before you cook on it.
